Sun Poisoned by Nikki Rae

Sun Poisoned (229pgs) (release date: June 28, 2013)

Sophie’s life has changed. She’s moved to New York, she’s playing music for new people, and she’s making new friends. Then there’s Myles, and the fact that he is now her boyfriend—and everyone knows it.
She’s not exactly normal, living in a half-human, half-vampire world, but she’s finally, truly happy. However, some parts of Sophie and Myles’ old lives still hide in the dark, waiting for the right opportunity to strike.
Sophie’s having nightmares again, but they aren't about her; Myles is hiding something as well, something Sophie isn’t sure she wants to know.

And one lie will change everything.

No matter how hard she tries to cover up the marks her monsters have left behind, they never truly go away, and Myles’ monsters are no different.
Once again, Sophie’s caught between life and death, but this time, only she can save herself.

My Honest Opinion
I give this book 5 out of 5 stars

I read the first book, “Sunshine” and I could not wait to get my hands on this book. The second book in this series did not disappoint me one bit. It had action, mystery, and of course young love. By the time I got to the end of the book I was just reeling and dying to read the third in this series!
One of my favorite things about this book as well as the first one, is the chapter titles and the lines from songs. The author uses bands that I love, but are not as main stream in today’s music stations. I love it because it, at least for me, gives me a little clue as to what is to come or what is going on in that part of the book.
I love how Sophie and Myles are so in love. I have read as Sophie started out as a girl who never trusted anyone, not even anyone in her family one hundred percent and she is now starting to let that go a little bit at a time giving her trust to Myles. I have really connected with Sophie.
I was surprised to find out the main bad guy, Michael was still alive. However, the fact that he was and was still watching her and was still after her was exciting. I did have a laugh out loud moment when I read that they thought she had a fang stuck in her leg. I think the reason I thought it was so funny is because it is not something I have ever seen or heard of before but just the thought of a vampire losing a tooth in a victim I found very funny. Of course there are some other funny moments and some sad moments as well.
This is a book series where you just cannot help but fall in love with the characters. They all remind you of someone you know, friends, family, and sometimes yourself. Bravo! I look forward to reading the next book.

Sunshine by Nikki Rae

Sunshine(330pgs) (release date: January 28, 2013):

18 year old Sophie Jean is pretty good at acting normal. Sure, she’s not exactly happy, but happiness is nothing compared to being like everyone else. She can pretend she’s not allergic to the sun. She can hide what her ex-boyfriend did to her. She can cover up the scars she’s made for herself. Ignore anything. Forget anything. Then Myles enters her life, and he has more than a few secrets of his own. When accident after accident keeps happening to Sophie, she can’t help noticing that he’s everywhere.
That he knows too much. That she’s remembering too much.

It’s one thing covering up her own dark past, but does she really need to worry about people finding out just how much Myles likes her? Or that despite how much she doesn't want to repeat past mistakes, she kind of likes him back? Not to mention the fact that she now has to conceal that Myles drinks blood-that he says he’s about four hundred years old.
She almost forgot about that part.
But Sophie has no plans to ruin the normal life she has created for herself. She can deal with this little glitch, no problem. Even if word has gotten around to the wrong vampire about Sophie and Myles, even if she’s putting the few people she loves at risk. Suddenly, those who were monsters before are just people, and the monsters? They’re real. Now being a normal human being is the least of her problems. Now she has to stay alive.

My honest review
I give this book four out of five stars.

When I first began reading “Sunshine” I was excited because I knew it was a paranormal romance and I love paranormal romance books. However, I began to get bored with the details of the first several chapters, as I am not a detail loving person, I rather get to the meat of the story. I will say this though, as much as I do not like details as the story unfolds I know that all of those details were needed in order for the meat of the story to make any sense at all. I found myself so drawn into the story as it progressed!
I will admit that there were times that I thought to myself that there were a lot of similarities to “Twilight” but the big difference was the fact that “Sunshine” is better. There is more action and while it takes almost the entire book for the main characters to admit how they feel about one another, it makes it more believable. I mean who wouldn’t want to have a vampire boyfriend, but there are not a whole lot of us that would admit that they LOVE someone after just spending one day with them. I think that the author was wonderfully refreshing by not having them rush into a relationship like that. They began with being best friends and went from there and I think that relationships like that are what work better than any other kind.
I cannot wait to read the next book in the series! I am dying to find out what happens with this couple because I think I know why Michael claimed he needed to kill Sophie…and why she is allergic to the sun. The only reason I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars is because it was a very slow beginning but it is definitely a must read for anyone that likes paranormal romance!

Let Me Go by D.C. Renee

Rape. One word changed his life. Mason Tredwell had it all. He was a good looking, well-respected doctor. He had money, power, and friends. He never worried about finding a woman to warm his bed. But that all changed when he was wrongfully accused of rape. And now, after five years in prison and the loss of everything he cared about, he wanted revenge.
Abandoned as a baby and bounced around different foster homes, Kat Gingham never really had a charmed life. But now, things were really falling apart. She had no money, no job, and even her lying, cheating boyfriend was gone too. She allowed herself one night to cry about her situation before she picked herself back up. But when she woke up, she was no longer at home, and she was no longer alone. She was facing Mason, a guy who claimed she ruined his life. And he’s hell-bent on breaking her down, humiliating her, making her feel like he has all these years.
She claimed she had no clue what he was talking about, but he didn't believe her. The facts don’t lie.
Was Kat lying? Could she convince Mason to let her go? Or was fate playing a role in why they were thrown into this together?

Kat keeps telling Mason she has no idea what he is talking about. Who is right? Who is wrong?
I really enjoyed this story. It was different from anything I've read before.
Kat and Mason make a good couple. Benny, Mason's best friend from jail is the most incredible and likable character you will ever meet. He is so funny. He is a good person and he is the one that pushes Kat and Mason together.
I recommend this book. It was good. I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

Dressed In White by Jessica Gibson

Lorelei Peters had everything she had ever dreamed of. Amazing friends, a sexy boyfriend, and a job that she absolutely loved.

Dillon Brockwell was all she had ever wanted. Handsome, successful, and he loved her as much as she loved him. Life was going along the way it was supposed to, until someone from Dillon’s past shows up and shatters everything to pieces.

Can Lorelei and Dillon get through all the craziness and make it down the aisle? Or will lies of omission be enough to derail them forever.

I was given this book for an honest review.
This is a really quick, love story read.  I enjoyed that I could sit down in  a few hours and read this book.  The author made the story believable, which sometimes is very hard to do.  Loved how she wrote the story and her descriptive words over the wedding was awesome.  I loved the drama that played out, but at some points it did feel too lovey dovey.  Some things should just be a little harder to get over, but that is just me.  The secondary characters, Dillion and lor's siblings were great.  They are going to have a great story to tell.  Roxi, lor's bff, great person, she is definetly someone you want in your corner.  Estella, the former of Dillion's, evil person, but what would it be without any drama.  Like I said before the book is great, just some parts didn't seem believable at times and I think she could have added a little more drama to all of it.

Lor has been with Dillion for four years now, she's hoping he will propose, which he does, but surprisingly he shouldn't have, because well he's already married.  Estella turns up and makes a mess of the world Lor and Dillion is in.  With the twists and turns of everything, we are not even sure if they will have their happily ever after.  Will Lor take Dillion back, or is it too much?  Are there more secrets that they don't know about?  Will love survive or will there be no happily ever after?  Well I have to tell you, read the book.

I definetly like this book and I can't wait to hear the rest of kayla's and Dane's story.  Hope I am not waiting to long.

Elixir Bound by Katie L. Carroll

Katora Kase is next in line to take over as guardian to a secret and powerful healing Elixir. Now she must journey into the wilds of Faway Forest to find the ingredient that gives the Elixir its potency. Even though she has her sister and brother, an old family friend, and the handsome son of a mapmaker as companions, she feels alone. It is her decision alone whether or not to bind herself to the Elixir to serve and protect it until it chooses a new guardian. The forest hosts many dangers, including wicked beings that will stop at nothing to gain power, but the biggest danger Katora may face is whether or not to open up her heart to love.

I was given this book for an honest review.

A good adventure book. I found this book somewhat complex and immature for lack of a better word. Not in the writing, but in the characters' personality traits. Throughout the book Katora is trying to prove she is the leader, but goes about it like a child, with petulant temper tantrums and all around whining at times. If nothing else it provided a path for her to travel as she became a leader in every sense of the word. It is a journey of self discovery and finding the courage and strength to follow your heart instead of your head. The small, innocent twist of young love was a nice addition and brought a little sweetness to the victory. The author did a good job with her words and descriptions, easily painting a picture within the pages and between the lines. Overall I enjoyed this book and read it relatively quickly.

The Threaded Gem Adventure by Malana Ashlie

Crafting Relationships through Beads. Life is about connecting the dots. This is the answer Malana Ashlie received when trying to decide how to join special people in her life for her birthday. The threaded Gem Adventure is a how to book for creating a memory chain using beads representing each of the special people in your life. The basic explanations, supported by photographs of the process, are presented as stepping-stones in a story that traces the author’s personal journey of awareness.

This book was very inspirational. Yes it tells you how to craft a necklace but it offered so much more. There were a lot of memorable quotes in this book as well. A few of my favorites are "All of our thoughts, worries, experiences, along with things we have viewed, heard and been taught whirl and flow, flavoring our views of everyday experiences." I never really looked at it this way but this is such a true statement.  Another one I liked was "...people are like stones. We are different sizes, colors and marked in different ways, yet every stone has a natural brilliance; what we might call our intelligence. Each one has something of value to offer but not every stone has the potential to become a gem." I really, really loved that statement. I never thought of that, that way! That could not be a truer statement.  This was a short read but packed a powerful punch if you are opened to it! I recommend this book to all who are open to receive some beautiful messages.

Stealing Promises by Brina Courtney

Promises are made to be kept, never stolen. But that's exactly what happened to Victoria Blane and Levi Manor. Tragedy strikes their perfect relationship leaving Victoria struggling to overcome the darkness that threatens to bury her.

Brighton Hanley knows what it's like to lose someone. He knows what it's like to be haunted by things that can never change. When he meets Victoria he recognizes the pain she's trying to bury deep in her eyes. He knows she's trying to hide, but he also knows that you can't hide forever.

Victoria is drawn to Brighton in ways she never expected. But is she ready to let go of the past and grab on to her future?  Or will she run away from Brighton before she can be hurt again?

Excerpt:
The smell reached her nose before she even opened her eyes and Victoria knew where she was. Back in the hospital, the hellhole. It had the distinct smell of cleaning supplies and death. Victoria couldn't understand why she was back here when she had finally made the decision to take care of the pain herself. Why had Kate arrived when she did? Did she expect something like this to happen? Slowly Victoria tried to move her limbs and felt the scratchy sheets beneath her skin. She looked over at the multiple stitches crisscrossing back and forth over her pale skin. This was her life. This what Victoria had done to herself. Her arm would never be the same again. But would anything else? She wasn't sure.

This book was the most I've cried reading a story in a long time. I felt all the grief and pain and had to take breaks to clear my blurry vision. This author is very good at choosing words to evoke emotions from readers. I did have a couple issues with this book though. The chapters were numbered of course, but when I got to number fifteen it was blank and the next page was chapter sixteen. The story didn't seem to be missing anything though, so I think it was just a numbering issue. Then as I read the author seemed to use both first and third person point of view. The problem is that it became confusing as it bounced back and forth between "I" and "she" or "her", sometimes in the same section. My last problem was the ending. It felt unfinished and unsatisfactory. The story was too short and I felt that the characters deserved to have the rest of their journey told. Besides these issues I felt this was a very good, emotional read. If you like to feel when you read, then this is the book for you!

This was such an emotional book that i was in tears almost three quarters away in this book.  There is so much heartbreak in this book that you feel Victoria's pain all the way through this book.  I don't know if i could have survived what she did.  The details were so overwhelming sometimes, that i had to catch my breath sometimes.  The only reason i gave it a four star was because of the abrupt ending.  I was upset that it didn't progress farther than it did.

This is not a book that you are getting a very happy ending.  You are getting a real book.  Victoria and Levi have been in love forever, and they have been together forever.  One fateful night things change drastically.  When life changes so drastically that you don't know what to do, you have to learn to live again.  That is not the easiest thing to do.  You need to learn to survive again.

My first time with this author, and i will continue to read more from this author.  Such a great book, I highly recommend it.

The Tempering by Adrianne James

The Mythology department at prestigious Harvard University is tiny—and Mackenzie Duncan has just been selected as one of the lucky few. Her love for myths and legends is strong, but she never thought any of it could be real.

After being attacked by a large wolf while walking home alone, Mackenzie realizes something is not right. She heals quickly, is suddenly super strong, and is experiencing mood swings that can't possibly be normal. The myths she's studying aren't myths at all. Werewolves are real and she's one of them. Fear of what she is, and who she might hurt sends Mackenzie running from the life she’s worked hard to build–and straight into the arms of a handsome Were named Geoff and into the home of his pack. Living with her new pack takes the edge off her confusion and self-loathing, but the arrival of new pack members changes the dynamic, and tests Geoff and Mackenzie’s growing relationship.

The hardest part of being a werewolf is having no control and no memory of her time as a blood thirsty beast. When a moon cycle passes and she actually remembers bits and pieces of the night, she starts to ask questions, and the more questions she asks, the more she realizes she doesn't like the answers. Can she set aside her own sense of morals to belong to a pack that is like a family or will she leave everything behind yet again in search of a life she can be proud of?

Interesting--------- Fast paced paranormal story.
A loner by choice. Great, strong female lead. Not the best home life, father in prison, a mother who only wants her to be average. A temper she needs to learn to control. She wants to become so much more.

She gets into a great college. She goes to Harvard. Follows a very interesting degree. Paranormal Mythology. Not your average degree, not your average girl.

Attacked by a wolf. Her life changes forever. Great action and humor.

I think paranormal lovers will enjoy this book.

Enjoy <3

Tyler Moore is about to find out what happens when a romantic tale jumps from the pages and comes to life between the sheets.

I was given this book for an honest review.
This is an extremely fast read and a good one.  I enjoyed how the author didn't make the lead male a great guy at first, that he was this arrogant guy that thought he was gods gift to woman.  I loved the female lead was strong and independent and didn't need him. I loved that there was a true struggle for them to be together. The author showed depth in both characters which is always great to see.  I was a little disappointed that it was a short book, thought there would be more to their story, and also not a lot of detail in the secondary characters.

More and Tyler met twenty years ago, dated for six months and then it was over.  They then meet up twenty years later and their feelings have not changed.  They still want each other.  So can they make their second chance work?  With some obstacles around and some soul reaching could they make this work?

I loved this author and I hope to read more of her books soon.

This book left me feeling unimpressed, and I struggled with the storyline as I felt it was reminiscent of "The Never Ending Story." I was surprised by how much this book was lacking, because I have read this author before and truly enjoyed the read. However, the writing and grammar did not impress me and frankly I found myself correcting things as I continued reading. Others may find this book fascinating and like it, but as for me, I do not feel that I would recommend this book to any others unless they enjoy fantasy more than all other genres.
